SEA LION

Raw Shrimp, Headless, Shell-on

This is the most common form of raw shrimp use in the United States. The head of the shrimp is removed, the throat meat is trimmed and that's it. This form is also referred as a ‘green headless’, a name that beckons back to the day when all shrimp was wild caught. Back in the ‘day’ the shell of sea caught shrimp would have defects and had a slight greenish tint.

The acronym for Headless Shell-on shrimp is ‘HLSO’. Most, if not all HLSO shrimp, is packed in frozen blocks with up 50% ice. While this form lacks the convenience we see with other forms of shrimp, one big advantage of this form is its longevity. Block frozen shrimp, stored correctly, can last for years.

HLSO block frozen shrimp is a favorite among distributors during warm weather as it can be easily transported with minimal ‘sweating’ of the cartons.

The majority of HLSO shrimp comes from these countries:
Thailand
